Buddy Guy

Hosts Jim and Greg celebrate blues legend Buddy Guy’s 90th birthday. They begin by outlining his unconventional career, including his star turn in 2025’s Sinners. He’s known for his violent, high-energy style. This style wasn’t appreciated by his former label Chess Records, but was adored and emulated by British blues fans like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Andy Summers. Then they revisit their 2007 interview and Buddy also performs a rare acoustic set. Finally, the hosts share some of their favorite tracks from Guy’s career and trace his influence on younger musicians.

Dear Listeners,

For more than 15 years, Sound Opinions was a production of WBEZ, Chicago's public radio station. Now that the show is independent, we're inviting you to join the band and lend a hand! We need your support more than ever because now we have to do all the behind-the-scenes work that WBEZ handled before (like buying insurance and paying for podcast hosting, ugh). Plus, we have some exciting ideas we'd like to try now that there's no one to tell us no!
