Let's have a thread in which we can wax eloquent (more than likely, probably not) about all the great pop-punk/screamo/emo/whatever the hell you want to call. This can probably cover a pretty wide range of stuff, open to interpretation.
For example, here are two of my favorites from this year:

Taking Back Sunday -
Louder NowThis gets a little better with each listen, the two singles are great fun especially "MakeDamnSure".

The Format -
Dog ProblemsI'm new to these guys, but totally digging on this. It's like what happens if Steely Dan was born thirty years later and grew up on Drive-Thru.
Not to mention Cobra Starship and the awesomely over the top "Snakes On A Plane (Bring It)".

So yeah, we can talk about those. Or maybe you can tell me about that new HelloGoodbye album, the title makes it sound awesome.
I've also been enjoying this lately:

that HelloGoodbye video ("Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn" I think it was called) was pretty terrible.

I caught the video for their new single, its surprisingly not terrible even if they stole the teens in underwear thing from J.E.W.

"Head On Collision" and "My Friends Over You" both hit pretty big in whatever year that album was. '02 maybe?
EDIT: Just checked, '02 it was. "My Friends Over You" hit #85 on the Hot 100 and #5 Modern Rock. "Head On Collision" hit #28 Modern Rock.
FAKE EDIT: Obviously "pretty big" was all relative.

I think they had some hits off their 2000 self-titled album. You know, the album after they signed with MCA and changed their name to New Found Glory?

I've come to accept the fact that emo is used with this stuff now, cause it kinda has been since SDRE and stuff of that ilk,but I really don't get how screamo went from being bands like Orchid to bands like Thursday.
But on this type of music's tip.. who digs/used to dig Reggie and the Full Effect? I used to love that shit, and I still can't hate it just because DeWees is such a cool guy(even if he is in New Found Glory now). Plus he was the drummer for Coalesce,so extra cool points for him.

Yeah, I expected to get some crap for using that in the title - but for better or worse, "emo" has a whole new meaning for kids growing up on the My Chemical Romance/Fall Out Boy Stuff. We an argue semantics as long as we want, but its not going to stop the youngins' from considering a lot of this stuff emo.
Also, I don't see whats so wring with this thread. Why is this so much worse than having a Metal thread? Or a noise thread? There's quite a few people on the board that enjoy this kind of stuff, so why not condense it into one thread that the haters can avoid easily. This is certainly no worse than the rampant Weezer-worship that has seemed to take over the board as of late.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong - I certainly love Weezer. Pinkerton is in my Top 25 albums of all time. Just that the over-abundance of threads devolving into pictures of Rivers and Green Album quotes is beginning to bug even me.

I have to find that Paramore album. I can't stop playing "Emergency". Talk about catchy. The 16 year-old singer's a bit of an Avril clone, but the song's good enough to let it slide.
Has anyone else here heard the Forecast? They're from Peoria, and sort of combine roots rock with emo, and have an amazing boy-girl lead vocal thing going on. I liked their debut, but their new one takes things to the next level.
I also got a cd in the mail by a band called On the Last Day, and when I looked at the photo on the back, I just wanted to punch every last one of them:

I've heard a lot about The Forecast, but have yet to hear an actual track. I'm intrigued.
And yes, pretty much half of the bands listed in this thread have at least one or two punch-worthy members.

Fact: I once had an MxPx CD, and I kept trying to sell it, but nobody would buy it, so I mailed it to my friend in Detroit, along with Primus's Anti-Pop, and the Hippos' Heads Are Gonna Roll. He was not happy about this.
Another fact: I enjoy multiple albums by the group Nerf Herder, as well as frontman Parry Gripp's solo album For Those About To Shop We Salute You.

GI was a 1980s melodic hardcore band from DC who weren't on Dischord, for some reason. One or two of these guys went on to form Jawbox and then Burning Airlines.
