i wonder how much it would cost to get FR to play in my bathroom. there aren't enough bathroom shows these days...

Might be hard to find in stores, but I got it out of the Grayslake Public Library this weekend.
Once again, Grayslake finds itself on the leading edge of the arts!

i think my apartment would be the optimal environment. when the furniture is moved around, you could fit probably 7,000 people in there. or 70.
whatever.

but a practice PA in a basement in Pittsburgh still might work. i'm keeping my fingers crossed. i'm gonna go to that one, if it happens, for sure.

alright, Toronto folks... ask and ye shall receive: FR will be playing on MTV Live on MTV Canada on October 21st. we're not listed in the upcoming guests yet, as it just confirmed, but... you can go here:
http://www.mtv.ca/mtvlive/tickets.jhtml to request tickets. just fill in "Tue. October 21, 2008 18:00-MTV Live: Frightened Rabbit (performance)" in the subject line.
of course, if you don't get official tickets, PM with your email address and we'll figure out some way to get you on the guest list. please know that you need to be there for like 2 or 2.5 hours total, and i believe there's a dress code of sorts, so... be prepared to jump through a few hoops. don't know what songs the boys will play yet, but... it'll be worth it!
for those of you that need to know their every move, FR landed at Newark airport yesterday at 1:00 PM, spent the night at the Hudson Valley home of FatCat's US head, drank some whiskey, and fell asleep at 9:30 PM. this morning, Scott and Grant came into NYC for a couple of interviews and some supplies, and they're beginning their drive towards Cleveland right about now. it's on, north america!
RE: pittsburgh offer last year vs. this year: at that time, the opportunity didn't exist, for this January tour, it does. not playing favorites, just juggling calendars.
and, like i said... if FR play this pburgh show in january, i'm coming out for it, too!

check these out recorded last month at The Mill in Edinburgh:
just 3 songs, and the first 30 seconds are a bit shaky, but... they get the sound sorted pretty quickly.
http://www.30milkshakes.com/fr/themill/yowza. wow.
(technically you can find these here:
http://www.themill-live.com/gallery.aspx?gigID=7 , but they've butchered the ID3 tags, and got the songs in a random order, so i cleaned 'em up and re-uploaded.)
actually... do me a favor and download them from both locations! thanks to much stricter UK web laws, we actually get paid per promo download on those tracks. just a pence or something, but... it'll buy 'em a pint of Magners when they get home.
now... I'm off to Princeton, for some Hoagie Heaven, a milkshake from Thomas Sweets, and headline set by Frightened Rabbit!

So far i'd say The Modern Leper, Old Old Fashioned, The Twist, My Backwards Walk, and Keep Yourself Warm are my favorites. Lyrically this a very engaging album, and that's my favorite bit about it so far. great lines all over the place. "you have to be a masochist to love a modern leper on his last leg," "you're the shit and I'm knee deep in it," "it takes more than fucking someone you don't know to keep yourself warm." Kind of reminds me of the National in that sense, in terms of the lyrics being sort of blunt, but having a lot of emotional heft as well, I guess. Compare those lines to something like "Karen put me in a chair / fuck me and make me a drink."
And it's backed by some really strong indie rock, so I can't complain there. I like the earthy vibe it's got going as well.

Man, I was drunk last night and I was thinking about this record as I was laying down to bed, and I had this brilliant insight that I can't remember now. Dammit.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I was thinking about how this is just indie-rock, perfectly executed. Just, there's no way you can deny that this record is anything but what one might typically envision "indie rock" to be, it's just that it's everything that indie rock should be at the same time, at least in my eyes. It's like The Meadowlands in that sense.

Lovin' the drama and the raw, direct instrumentation.
The production might be a bit too smooth for the effect to be total, but fuck it. This is good.
