you want to meet me or the band?
Hewletts Daughter
about how far is Madison from Chicago?

i'm still kicking around the idea of a trip up there for an evening

go ahead Hewlett's Daughter... click the pic...

My copy of this came in the mail yesterday.

It sounds just as good as ever.

wessucks
I was talking about a meetup for us fanatics on the message board...

Madison is about 2 and 1/2 hours from downtown chicago. So it's kind of far, but still doable. The only real problem is trying to leave from chicago before the afternoon rush hour, or that will easily add 30 to 60 minutes...

I made the trek up there to see them at the high noon saloon last time, and it was great. The venue is pretty nice with a decent beer selection and nice and small so it still seems intimate. Definitely don't regret making the long trip.

well, where the fuck is mine? i pre-ordered this thing like 2 months ago...

i thought about driving up for the Madison show, but my class doesn't get out til 6:30pm on fridays... plus, how many fucking times do i need to see this damn band in one year? tongue.gif
nagode
has anyone ripped this live album yet?
Hewletts Daughter
Naw. I keep sort of meaning to but always end up getting sidetracked by a variety of things including eating food and playing video games.

I need these things done for me. I just can't be relied on to do them myself.

K, so...

Debating the 3-hour drive to Columbus on a school night. The only thing that gives me pause is the whole 'opening for the Spinto Band' business.

Anyone have an idea how long they'll play? Anyone have some contact info for the band so I might figure out how long these opening sets are?

I just don't want to make the trek for a 30-minute opening act bit.
selfstarter
while they are a significant draw on the bill, it is an opening band slot. and, well... they're a smart band. so... you know those opening band slots where you hate the band, and then they play for 55 minutes? FR won't do that. they'll come out and do probably 8 songs / 37 minutes, and blow the doors off every car in the parking lot.

and, well... you should do whatever you can to see those 37 minutes, because they will change your life.
brobee
cheese, why don't we just create a bunch of fake aliases and harrass their representation or tour management until we get them to garfield artworks or the bbt?

for serious?

selfstarter, drag them to pittsburgh! i can guarantee you like fifteen people.
selfstarter
oh, and... there's an acoustic in-store that day at Music Saves, so... if you could get there in time, you'd get to see 5 or 6 acoustic songs and then the set that night.

c'mon. you know you can skip that 2:00 PM class.

selfstarter
oh, X number of people. that's very good. very good, isn't it?

yeah... it's tough. no offense... i like pittsburgh, and some of my best friends' families live there, but... yeah... there's just not a viable option. get somebody to guarantee us $500 on tuesday, january 20th or wednesday, january 21st, and i'll have them play in your basement.

you think i'm joking...

i was actually joking, but $500 dollars, if you're serious, i think that can maybe be arranged. i'll ask around. when do you need to know by?
selfstarter
lemmee amend that... $500, a case of yuengling, a case of magners, 6 tall glasses with lots of clean ice, a bottle of scotch (can be a blend... doesn't need to be fancy 16 year single malt or anything), a six pack of coke, a six pack of red bull, and a relatively clean floor to sleep on... and i will drive them there myself to make it happen.

challenge issued. i need a $200 deposit by November 1st. i can give you the paypal address.

i have a sweet, huge and filthy basement. terrifyingly dirty. like a blair witch basement but instead of floating dead people, we have spiders and mice.
selfstarter
wednesday january 21 would be the ideal show date. you can always PM me, or simakos has my email address.

don't, you know, consider it confirmed until we talk further, but... heck, yeah... please do look into it! we'll play Carnegie Mellon or Phipps, too. (the boys would like some Phipps ladies, i'm sure.) or Allegheny Community College, or whatever. doesn't necessarily need to be a basement, but i kinda bet that would be coolest.

does Mad Mex still exist? if so, you might need to get us reservations there, too.

mad mex is still around. i'm a pitt student, i'm gonna look into their facilities as well.

selfstarter,

what if i can guarantee 300$, a fun party filled with lots of booze and people, and COUCHES for the band to sleep on.

do you think they'd take me up on that offer? ask scott. tell him derek wants to know. because i would make that shit happen so fucking fast you don't even know.

i mean, i'm offering them couches.

oh yeah, and simakos will make them dinner.

Also..... cool.gif cool.gif cool.gif

yeah, why the fuck haven't we done a living room show with them yet? we can raise that kind of money in this thread alone...

Will there by anything like this happening before the Toronto show, by any chance?
blackswede
count me in on the basement show...

i'll drive down from CT for that!
as long as Chris Hanson from DATELINE doesnt answer the door...
selfstarter
no in-store in toronto... sorry! the drive / border crossing is too long / potentially annoying, so it's not safe to schedule anything in the afternoon.

as for Chicago house show... that one's going to be tough. not because they don't love you, and not because they don't want to perform anal penetration on simakos AGAIN, but just because they rarely have any time off in such an important city. it's one of the rare times that being in the big city actually works against you.

maybe buy 'em a bunch of hot doug's and we'll get scott to do an acoustic set while waiting in line? ha.

i can tell ya'll that there's going to be a Chicago headline show in January, though.

selfstarter
and... really, what i should have said is "we don't do house parties in towns whose baseball teams have a bigger number in the E column than in the R column".

To clarify:

On the myspace page there's a free in-store session scheduled for Cleveland on Oct. 15th, and then on Oct. 22nd, there's a show scheduled in Columbus.

Is there either an in-store performance in Columbus or a proper show in Cleveland that would amount to two gigs in the same city on the same day?

DO IT NOW!
selfstarter
all of this is off the record, of course, so please don't get me in trouble with the nice promoters and universities of the world that pay Frightened Rabbit to play shows, but...

Ohio:
10/15/08 Cleveland, OH - at Music Saves (in-store performance)
10/15/08 Cleveland, OH - at The Spot at Case Western (FR headline) - technically students only, but... if you can make your way in, go for it.
10/22/08 Columbus, OH - at Skully's Music Diner w/ The Spinto Band

New England:
i can't say anything more than mark your calendars for January 18.

For what, the show at Great Scott?
pins
Figure if it's on Pollstar, it's fair game:

Fri 01/16/09 Philadelphia, PA Johnny Brenda's
Sat 01/17/09 New York, NY Bowery Ballroom
Sun 01/18/09 Allston, MA Great Scott
Mon 01/19/09 Washington, DC Rock And Roll Hotel

Chicago headline show is gonna be good times.
I'd actually kill to see them do a secret acoustic Hideout show, in the front room. My god, that would be great.

And, is there *remotely* any chance the Metro show sells out? I'm too lazy to make it to the box office to buy advance tickets, and don't really foresee this being a problem, but I have no concept of Spinto Band's popularity.

No freaking way this sells out. Is anyone talking about The Spinto Band with the same reverence as say, Fleet Foxes, who are also playing a show at Metro next weekend that has yet to sell out? No, no they are not. Wire, Okkervil River, Secret Machines shows also not sold out. You do save $2 by getting your $12 ticket at the box office before getting it at the door though.

I almost wish the Madison and Chicago shows were flipped, since I'm already in Madison for a meeting on 10/23. But once will be fine enough.

Shame about the lack of a Toronto in-store... any chance of a Toronto or Buffalo headlining show in January? Please?

no Toronto or Buffalo in January. sorry! it's just making up the 7 or 8 shows they had to cancel in order to confirm the European Death Cab dates. come to pittsburgh if cheese and co. can get it booked. (challenge still in action.) and bring me a bottle of Inniskillin Vidal Ice Wine. or a couple of college girls from Brock. or both.

the challenge might be in action but it won't be for long. spoke to some buddies today, we'll put up the money next week hopefully, and this weekend we're looking at venues.

so yeah, come to pittsburgh. this city needs all the visitors it can get. just don't be shocked when the locals bad mouth you to your face.

I can definitely get a few people together to support this.

My friend goes to CMU. He thinks the Activities Board there might be able to offer a venue.

awesome. brillobox would work too (never actually been to a show there before, though going for that elephant 6 holiday surprise concert), but the place is a little too scene-ish. other good bars in the same vicinity. or cmu. or pitt.

cheese, in any event, the goal i set with my friends is at least fifty people. which i think we can manage, if we push this hard. i've already got at least ten. let me know how your efforts are going.
