I was talking about a meetup for us fanatics on the message board...
Madison is about 2 and 1/2 hours from downtown chicago. So it's kind of far, but still doable. The only real problem is trying to leave from chicago before the afternoon rush hour, or that will easily add 30 to 60 minutes...
I made the trek up there to see them at the high noon saloon last time, and it was great. The venue is pretty nice with a decent beer selection and nice and small so it still seems intimate. Definitely don't regret making the long trip.

K, so...
Debating the 3-hour drive to Columbus on a school night. The only thing that gives me pause is the whole 'opening for the Spinto Band' business.
Anyone have an idea how long they'll play? Anyone have some contact info for the band so I might figure out how long these opening sets are?
I just don't want to make the trek for a 30-minute opening act bit.

while they are a significant draw on the bill, it is an opening band slot. and, well... they're a smart band. so... you know those opening band slots where you hate the band, and then they play for 55 minutes? FR won't do that. they'll come out and do probably 8 songs / 37 minutes, and blow the doors off every car in the parking lot.
and, well... you should do whatever you can to see those 37 minutes, because they will change your life.

To clarify:
On the myspace page there's a free in-store session scheduled for Cleveland on Oct. 15th, and then on Oct. 22nd, there's a show scheduled in Columbus.
Is there either an in-store performance in Columbus or a proper show in Cleveland that would amount to two gigs in the same city on the same day?

all of this is off the record, of course, so please don't get me in trouble with the nice promoters and universities of the world that pay Frightened Rabbit to play shows, but...
Ohio:
10/15/08 Cleveland, OH - at Music Saves (in-store performance)
10/15/08 Cleveland, OH - at The Spot at Case Western (FR headline) - technically students only, but... if you can make your way in, go for it.
10/22/08 Columbus, OH - at Skully's Music Diner w/ The Spinto Band

Sat 01/17/09 New York, NY Bowery Ballroom
Sun 01/18/09 Allston, MA Great Scott
Mon 01/19/09 Washington, DC Rock And Roll Hotel
Chicago headline show is gonna be good times.
I'd actually kill to see them do a secret acoustic Hideout show, in the front room. My god, that would be great.
And, is there *remotely* any chance the Metro show sells out? I'm too lazy to make it to the box office to buy advance tickets, and don't really foresee this being a problem, but I have no concept of Spinto Band's popularity.

No freaking way this sells out. Is anyone talking about The Spinto Band with the same reverence as say, Fleet Foxes, who are also playing a show at Metro next weekend that has yet to sell out? No, no they are not. Wire, Okkervil River, Secret Machines shows also not sold out. You do save $2 by getting your $12 ticket at the box office before getting it at the door though.
I almost wish the Madison and Chicago shows were flipped, since I'm already in Madison for a meeting on 10/23. But once will be fine enough.
