Hewletts Daughter
a few pages back i posted about it. you can order it through Fat Cat's website, but only their UK site, not the US.

with shipping and everything, it'll run you about $30 (if yr in the Chicagoland area)

simakos
man, why the fuck have i not ordered that yet?
Melted Cheese
And I picture this corpse
on the M8 hearse
and I half run away to sleep
On a rolled up coat
against the window
with the strobe of the sun
and the life I've led

Indeed.

Listening to this again right now. I love it. Love. It.

I'm leaving the office and walking across the street to Lolla in 40 minutes, so I figured listening to the greatest record of 2008 would get me in the proper mood.
Freddie Freelance
Every time I see this thread I think it's about "Sword Fighting".
Melted Cheese
Also... greatest album title ever?

I mean, what do you call an album that digs honestly and deeply and effectively into all the emotions surrounding the pursuit/loss/rememberance/frustration of sex and love?

You call it "sex" of course.

Or, if you're awesome, you call it "The Midnight Organ Fight", and as soon as he yelps that line in "Fast Blood" and you get that rather nasty, graphic, (and of course effective) image in your head, you go "Ohhhh.... Midnight ORGAN Fight.... indeed... this album is fucking awesome."
simakos
me and Skinnyhips predicted today while roasting in the sun that Frightened Rabbit will headline Lollapalooza in precisely 16 years...

i dont know...this still seems more like it should be a schubas show rather than metro
Hewletts Daughter
i've never heard Spinto Band. I just know that the Lovely Feathers opened for them a few years ago at Schubas, and I love me some Lovely Feathers.

So yeah, Schubas seems to make more sense to me.

Meh, i'll be there either way

nagode
spinto band are nice...but FR should be the headliner...i guess oh mandy was a pretty big hit a few years back
simakos
yeah, "Oh Mandy" is all i know of them...

"Modern Leper" is a sweet song. I've listened to the rest of the album about twice, and it's sounding good, but that track definitely sticks out.

probably not supposed to say this but... there will be an acoustic version of this record released in the fall.

Hewletts Daughter
so now frightened rabbit can have my favorite album of 2008 and also my second favorite album of 2008?

what a fantastic year for me.

simakos
yep.

yay us!

Very late to this album but man, definately worth the hype. And I LOVE how thick his accent is. It definately makes them stand out from any other band out there. I do find he sounds like a number of other vocalists at different times (i.e. Chris Martin durring high "cooing" phrases) but that takes nothing away from them what so ever.

I have been listening to this for less then a week and it is a lock for top 5 and probably top 3 if nothing else as jaw dropping as this comes out.

    Just admit it, man.

This is your favorite album of the year.

I've never had any interest in pimping albums for year end threads because, like, how lame is that? Except that I want to start a PR campaign for this disc. I feel like everyone in the world needs to at least hear it. And if you really listen to it, how could you possibly not like it unless your soul was hard and black?
    Melted Cheese
    As per my above post...

I just skimmed the entire thread, looking for a single negative comment. There was not one. Everytime a new poster came into the thread the comment was something along the lines of "holy shit. what a phenomenal record!"

Also, I found this, which was a nice surprise:

Yay! More Frightened Rabbit. It's good, of course.

Also every single friend I've sent or burned this album for has liked it. Loved it, even. Never even really gotten a lukewarm reaction on this thing.

    It's just so undeniably great.

Yeah it could be actually. Right now Cut Copy is sitting in that spot but I have had more time with it then this onviously. That could all change in a few weeks or a month though.

But yeah, anyone who thinks this is shit to average needs to be gang raped by the inmates of some Mexican maximum security prison.

yeah, this album has united so many. it's got so much heart that it's hard to hate it. all of the songs i think come from a place we've all been at some point...situations we've all gone through. it's an album for people with heart.

Yeah, Ive given this to a few people and they've all loved it. Granted, they aren't as fanboyish as some of us here, but they've all at least picked out a few tracks and we've talked in depth and said "holy shit this is good.' Great album, friends. Great, great times had.

      Lefty LeMur
seen these guys live around 3 times in Glasgow now.. brilliant shows, the frontman is always such a laugh. haven't warmed up much to this year's album though - i don't like how he's starting to sound like the counting crows guy. sing the greys i thought was messier but more lovable.
      Chronodiggity
Lefty comes out of left field with those comments!

'Be Less Rude' is definitely top tier in the Rabbit catalog, no doubt. But it doesn't have the same heartfelt sincerity as 'Modern Leper,' 'Fast Blood,' or the always powerpunchpacked 'Good Arms Vs Bad Arms.'

'Be Less Rude' is a great 'drive around with teh windows down and sing along because it's pretty fun' song. The new material just has more emotional depth and is more complex, musically. Not saying anything off Sings the Greys isn't like that, it's just two different albums with two different vibes. That's all.

Go relisten to Midnight Organ Fight, plz
