I also remember thinking "Where the hell is Yancy? He'd love these guys."
I did wind up loving Tigercity several months later. Too bad I didn't arrive early or it could've been my show of the year. The rare great triple bill.
I look forward to the Five Things contingent despising Tigercity tonight.

I hope my volleyball game at 7:30 tonight gets rained out so there's no issue with me getting in.
I'm heading there straight after if not.
Don't worry yancy, if I hate them, I'll be hoarding the megatouch machine.

Hey guys. Good to see you all tonight, I had fun. Not as much fun as you guys are having right now getting drunk with those Scott's I'm sure. First time seeing them was at Do Division and I enjoyed it but after absorbing the album for the past week this was a really good show. And they dedicated a song to simakos!
Side note, Derek was totally won over by Tigercity tonight.
Edit: Holy shit, who is this band on Conan right now? Is this what kids listen to today?

show was really good...i think once these guys start playing more shows and get a little tighter and play venues with better sound (schubas) they will be a great live act to see...the sound wasnt fantastic tonite...you miss a bunch of the intricacies of the songs that i really enjoy on the ablum like on modern leper...but overall really good show...tigercity on the other hand made me almost want to shoot myself...it was like a bad version of the killer meeting the beegees...eeecchhkkk....
did anyone stay for OC...i wanted to but was really tired...

So im pretty sure this is my favorite new band of this year. I bought the latest album on itunes last night as well as a 5 song live set on itunes at an urban outfitters at sxsw. Thanks for strongly suggesting going to that show
And if there's anything else I can say, it's that Frightened Rabbit are the nicest guys in the world. Just sincerely nice and genuine. I remain impressed that Scott remembered my name after the two brief minutes I spoke with him at DoDivision. Seriously. Awesome awesome guys.

Last night's show was probably the best of the five that I've seen. Best-ever performances of "My Backwards Walk" and "Keep Yourself Warm." And "Go-Go Girls" just killed, especially for a song that they supposedly don't like playing. Good call, Simakos. They, Scott and Grant particularly, just throw all that they have into their performance. Enough to soak their shirts through after 50 minutes. I had a good vantage point to see Grant in action through the set, and he is so uninhibited in his playing and singing, that it's hard not to smile just looking at him.
Afterwards, Scott changed his shirt, said his hellos to the SOMB crew, and intently and enthusiastically watched Oxford Collapse's entire set from the floor. Very cool.
I don't recall ever seeing a drum riser on the Empty Bottle stage.
I don't get the hate for Tigercity, but then I have a soft spot for that faux-soul-disco-pop thing that they do. The singer still drives me nuts with his nervous pacing of the stage, and the rest of the band look like stoner metal dudes, but who cares when the tunes and the grooves are so good.
Oxford Collapse only hit me in bits and pieces, and apparently most of the rest of the Bottle crowd too, as the room was 80% empty by the end of their set. I was tired though. Would have liked to have stayed for the after party shenanigans, but I was spent. A fine night out. AGAIN. I don't think with thee Rabbits it could ever not be so.

everything Bob says, i agree with (except for that Tigercity nonsense).
just had lunch at Hot Doug's with all of the rabbitz and crew. i didn't get a per diem... maybe next tour. Grant seemed to be recovering from all of those birthday shots quite nicely. they are just such a bunch of sweet guys. said they should be back to play again in October sometime. i got the impression that they really felt something special was going on with that packed house last nite. they love this town.
when they dedicated Go-Go Girls to me last nite, i pretty much turned into a giddy little girl.

Simakos about Tigercity: "This band is GAY."
Me: "I know why Yancy likes them now."
Really fun show though, despite dragging ass all morning thanks to the Continental. So jealous of all who didn't have to work.

Seriously... My Backwards Walk? Fast Blood? The Modern Leper? Good Arms vs. Bad Arms? There's some passion in this album that's been sorely lacking from most of what else I've heard from this year. After a few listens, this may be my #2 so far behind Microcastle.

Welcome to the club.
Seriously, there have been very few records released that I can think of that are half as beautiful yet heartbreaking and tragic as Midnight Organ Flight.
I've sort of given spinning it a break as of late just for fear of growing tired of it, but yeah. This thing has become not only my favorite disc of 08, but easily one of if not my favorite album of the decade. Everything about it is as perfect as music gets to me.
